Congress Introduces Legislation Establishing Federal Definition of Long-Term Care Pharmacy

Jul 28, 2020

AmerisourceBergen and Good Neighbor Pharmacy are pleased to share this communication from the Senior Care Pharmacy Coalition (SCPC) highlighting the recent introduction of federal legislation to define long-term care (LTC) pharmacy.  AmerisourceBergen supports SCPC as a business partner. A priority issue for the coalition, SCPC has been working to get this legislation introduced in Congress over the last few years.

Last week, U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Mark Warner (D-VA) and U.S. Representatives Kurt Schrader (D-OR) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) introduced the Long-Term Care Pharmacy Definition Act of 2020.  This legislation would establish a clear definition, in federal statute, of LTC pharmacy which would help modernize and clarify government oversight over the LTC pharmacy site of care and reduce regulatory conflicts.

SCPC is advocating for enactment of this legislation this year and may call upon the LTC pharmacy industry in the future to voice support of this bill.  We will be sure to share any future SCPC calls to action with you so you can contact your Members of Congress and encourage cosponsorship and enactment of the legislation.
