AmerisourceBergen (ABC) and Good Neighbor Pharmacy (GNP) continue to engage with Members of Congress on pharmacy priorities including empowering pharmacists to be able to provide and be reimbursed for COVID-19 testing and vaccination once available. ABC and GNP are partnering with several pharmacy organizations in our advocacy efforts including NACDS who recently issued the below CALL TO ACTION. We urge you to tell your Members of Congress to include emergency pharmacist provider status legislation in the next COVID-19 response legislation. This measure will ensure that pharmacists can more fully respond to the pandemic.
As congressional leaders negotiate another – and possibly final – COVID-19 response measure, it is more important than ever that pharmacy advocates engage Congress in our effort to secure emergency provider status for pharmacists. Help us encourage members of Congress to tell their colleagues in leadership positions to incorporate emergency pharmacist provider status language in the final package!
House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee Member Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) has developed a legislative proposal to establish pharmacist provider status, on an emergency basis, so that pharmacists may offer the full spectrum of COVID-19 services that they are qualified to provide as well as additional services, connected to influenza and other respiratory ailments. This is particularly important to ensure that pharmacies and pharmacists are fully incorporated into the deployment strategy for COVID-19 and influenza vaccines when they are available. Simply type in your name and address and click "send message" and our online letter-writing system will generate separate messages to the House and Senate.
The pharmacy profession, industry and patients are depending on you. If you have any questions about this communication, please contact Ashley O’Sullivan, Senior Manager of Policy & Legislation, or Beth Mitchell, Senior Director of Government Affairs.
